Our clients were looking to update their existing contemporary home and add new spaces to accommodate their adult children, grandchildren and guests. The 9,423 square-foot addition was designed to blend with the existing 8,966 square-foot home and create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Additional bedrooms, a new playroom, an expanded exercise room and a new theatre provide the amenities the Owner's requested while the addition of SMART house technology makes it east to run. The new spaces expanded the site boundaries over 3 lots totaling 1.75 acres. The Owners were very mindful of the impact the addition would make environmentally. Our biggest challenger was updating the existing home's energy consumption and creating an addition that would meet LEED Silver Certification. The home includes a 45-kW crystalline photovoltaic array that produces an estimated 60,000 watts of power, electric car charger, a cistern, energy management systems, recycled materials, soy-based icyclene insulation and many other sustainable strategies to earn more than the required 100 LEED points.

This project achieved LEED Silver Certification.
